Camp Canol is the site of the huge settlement used by road and oil workers during the construction of the Canol Pipeline. Abandoned since the end of World War II, it was bulldozed by the Northwest Territories government at the end of the 1970s. From here it is approximately three miles to the shore of the Mackenzie River. The Mackenzie River must be crossed by boat; when hiking from Macmillan Pass, it is best to organize a boat pickup in advance.
